2009 Alumni Homecoming

Preparations are underway for the conduct of the 2009 SNNHS Alumni Homecoming. This year's hosts and Alumni Foundation Officers are on planning stage and agreed to hold a weekly meeting set every Saturday at 2pm.

The Search is on for the Most Outstanding Alumni of 2009. The deadline for submission to the Alumni Foundation is on August 15, 2009. Each batch is encouraged to nominate only one --an alumni who has outstanding community involvement and active participation in the alumni activities.

All sponsoring batches will sponsor the snacks after the Thanksgiving Mass.

There will be an awarding for the following categories:

5. Discussions on the 2009 Alumni Homecoming is underway. Last July 17, Dr. Beth Borres called for a Batch Presidents' Meeting but unfortunately i was in Bislig that time. But Maam Cioney is always updating me of the developments. So let us all join the 09.09.09 celebration. Please attend the meetings we will have soon. Batchmates attended the 5th Caraga Mining Summit

Three Batch 98 Alumni participated in the 5th Caraga Mining Summit and Exhibition on April 23-24, 2009 at the Hotel Tavern Surigao, Surigao City with the theme, "Adopting Best Mining Practices through Strategic Partnerships for Sustainable and Self-Reliant Mining Communities".

Rennel Dalagan of DTI-RuMEPP facilitated the trade and exhibit booth of DTI as well as attended the discussion, Jessalyn Abonates of MRL Gold also took charge of their company exhibit, and Jun Piong of Surigao Chamber oversees and supervises the operation of the event as point person of the venue preparation.

The Caraga Mining Summit is a bi-annual conference of the mining sector in Caraga organized by the Chamber of Mines of Caraga Region and CREDO with the support of the DENR-Mines and Geosciences Bureau. The event is sponsored by the Growth with Equity in Mindanao under the USAID. Cooperators include the Provincial Government of Surigao del Norte, the City Government of Surigao, the Department of Trade and Industry, the Surigao Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Provincial Mining Investors Assistance Center.

The event culminated with a 2-day Jobs Fair held at the Hotel Tavern Surigao where a number of job applicants flocked the venue to seek employment. The Jobs Fair was facilitated by the Department of Labor and Employment-Caraga Region XIII through the Surigao Local Offices and Public Employment Services Office.

Around 300 participants coming from the different areas of the region and country attended the conference with dignitaries that includes H.E. German Ambassador Delia Albert who shared the thrust of Germany's assistance towards the development of the region.

Clarifications

Just to give clarifications on the issues being raised here, please allow me to respond to it blow by blow:

-Jun Piong, the current chairman of the batch, is anonymous in the batch back then, nor famous today. Lol. Honestly, I am among the inferior students way back high school. But that doesnt matter to me or less matter to everyone else. Though i am not known to the batch, what is important to me is I am known in the world i am revolving. What i perceived about your comment is that you are expecting someone popular to be the leader of the batch. Unfortunately during the batch reunion held last December 2008, there were only few who came. But that few i believed represents well. We even have there Ms. Shirley Alciso, a very known personality and among the responsible of the reunion.

As i've said before we're not here to politicize but rather to leave a legacy. And that does not require a popular leader. It only requires a dedicated and result-oriented individual.


"success story of m. reyes feat.? is she successful really? does she really exist? is her name popular in d country? what makes her successful?"
-First, our qualification in recognizing the successful individuals in our batch is not just popularity, though it matters a lot. I dont think you would agree that we will put here somebody who made it in the news but as a commander of the ASG or a bigtime syndicate head near to be shot dead.

We ought to recognize here our batchmates who, among the many qualifications, have survived life (the rag to riches style) and made good names in their field; may it be a farmer who have changed lives of his fellow field plowers. In short, we are looking for a success story not just a successful individual, looking for someone who is successful in his/her career and lives an inspiring life.

Hearing about the life of Ms. Mary Grace Reyes made me ponder that perhaps she qualified to be recognized as a successful individual. And of course she exist and you can see her in some print ads in Cebu. What i learn is that she have lived her decade extraordinarily. I already drafted her story and sent it to her but there was a problem somewhere that consumed my waiting so i dropped her from the list.

-We are and we need your help also. We are eyeing a few, but if you can suggest someone, we will be glad. And we are in need of somebody who has the expertise in writing stories. Volunteers please.
